Nicolas-Guy Brenet · Domaine public
This allegorical painting depicts a bust of Henry IV together with a medallion portraying the Countess of Gramont. Painted in 1776 by Nicolas-Guy Brenet, it takes the form of a commemorative work combining idealized portraiture, allegorical symbols, and references to dynastic memory. The presence of Henry IV, a king remembered in French history as a figure of reconciliation and royal greatness, gives the work a political and memorial dimension. Preserved in the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Quimper, it also reflects the 18th-century taste for allegorical compositions intended to celebrate persons, lineages, and historical remembrance.
