Battle of Saint-Martin-de-Ré

This print, published in Lyon by **Antoine Crues** in 1625, depicts the naval Battle of **Saint-Martin-de-Ré**, fought on 15 September 1625 between the Huguenot fleet of **Benjamin de Rohan, Duke of Soubise**, and the royal fleet commanded notably by Admiral **Henri II de Montmorency**, under the authority of **Louis XIII**. A work contemporary with the events, this engraving documents Soubise's decisive defeat, forcing him to flee to England and ending the first great Huguenot revolt of the reign narrated in this chapter.
