This illustration depicts Chlothar II, a Merovingian king who succeeded in reunifying all Frankish kingdoms in the early 7th century. After decades of internal conflicts, notably the rivalries between Fredegund and Brunhilda, he emerged as the sole ruler in 613. His reign marked a return to relative political stability after a long period of civil wars. This reunification represents an important step in consolidating the Frankish kingdom.
