This engraving by Auguste Trichon, titled “Cockfight,” depicts a popular form of entertainment in the nineteenth century. Spectators crowd around an improvised arena, intensely watching two roosters engaged in combat. The composition highlights the curiosity, excitement, and sociability surrounding this type of spectacle, now widely condemned for its cruelty to animals.
