This illustrated advertising card depicts King Dagobert based on the popular French song “Le bon roi Dagobert.” The image shows the king in his dressing room with his breeches on backwards, while Saint Eligius and other figures point it out to him. Published in Paris between 1900 and 1925 to advertise Alcool de Menthe de Ricqlès, it illustrates the use of historical figures and children’s songs in early 20th-century illustrated advertising.
