Charles Laplante, d'après Alphonse de Neuville · Public domain
This engraving by **Charles Laplante**, made between 1872 and 1875 after a drawing by **Alphonse de Neuville**, depicts **Marie de' Medici** alongside her two Italian favourites, **Leonora Galigaï** and **Concino Concini**, whose growing influence over the regent dominated the early years of Louis XIII's reign. Published as an illustration for François Guizot's *History of France*, this nineteenth-century image testifies to the lasting place this trio occupied in French historical memory, Concini being assassinated in 1617 and Galigaï executed the same year.
