This illustration by Émile Bayard depicts the rioters of Laon fighting against the nobles in 1115. The composition shows a violent melee in which horsemen, foot fighters, and fallen bodies collide in a space filled with movement, raised weapons, and horses carried away by the turmoil. The image emphasizes the brutality of the uprising, the disorder of urban combat, and the extreme tension between the insurgent population and seigneurial elites.
