Louis X succeeds Philip IV in 1314. The change of reign opens an immediate expectation: to correct the hardships of the end of the previous reign (taxation, currency, abuses by officers) without weakening the State.
Nobility and communities demand guarantees: limitation of certain administrative practices, return to better justice, and relief from monetary tensions. The king arbitrates between appeasement and maintenance of authority.
